Support & Advice for Survivors & Society at Large.
The past four months have been riddled with turbulence and uncertainty. From the pandemic and it’s economic fallout to racial injustices and polarizing politics, it’s understandable why feelings of anxiety, fear, and anger are rampant. These emotions are difficult to manage and they create the perfect recipe for violence and abuse.
Domestic abuse spiked during COVID-19 but it is far from over. It is an enduring problem that has been exacerbated by the national chaos and social unrest.
According to Domestic Abuse and Behavior Expert Mannette Morgan, mental health support is needed now more than ever – not only for survivors of abuse and their perpetrators but for society at large.
“Our society is overwhelmed with fear and it can become a tipping point. Habitual abusers get worse and latent abusers are revealed…”
…says Morgan, who has a unique insight on human behavior and has emerged as a leading voice among abuse survivors. After 30 years of intense self-work, Morgan overcame her past trauma of emotional, sexual, and physical abuse and today uses her experience to help survivors put their lives back together again.
The statistics on abuse are alarming. In fact, the worldwide increase in domestic abuse has been described as a “shadow pandemic” alongside COVID-19. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.
But according to Morgan, amid the turbulence and unrest is a silver lining. Sometimes crisis brings the perfect opportunity for change – for abuse survivors as well as society at large.
“The chaos and tension have brought us to a breakpoint allowing many people to see the truths of their relationships for the first time. It is exposing people’s imperfections and weaknesses…but it is also bringing out people’s strengths…”
…says Morgan, whose ultimate goal is to eradicate the cycle of abuse by healing and educating those who are most likely to fall into the same patterns over and over again. Mannette Morgan’s incredible story of survival and recovery is documented in the book Finding Your Voice.
